If he knows what he is doing, he will have you fill out an application. He will need all the personal information and yes he can and quite frankly, should run a credit and criminal history.
So don't be alarmed, its a normal procedure.
Think about it, if you go to lease an apartment from a complex, wouldn't they ask for this info? The fact that this is a room not an entire apt. has no bearing on making sure the person is capable of paying their financial obligations.

cheers.

Especially when a stranger is moving into someone's home as a room renter ,
The smarter landlord gets a serious background / credit check .
And yes , once someone does a credit check , they have all your ID info .

yes he will, and i don't see the point in renting a room in your house anyway i meen i can see renting an entire house or something like that but i can't see the point in just one room. Mainly if the person is a stranger.... but anyway back on the situation, yes he would have ALL your personal info..

Yes it is necessary thanks to the millions that don't believe in
paying their rent. I took care of 4 rental houses for my father in-law. I watched him try to collect rent for 12 years from the lowest of scum. They would leave right before the rent was due and on top of that 4 times what they owed had to be put into the house before it was ready to even think about renting out again. As long as you believe in paying what you owe and not leaving the owner guessing about whatever is owed.

If I were renting out a room in my home to a stranger you can bet that I would do a credit check to find out who I was inviting to live in my home.
