Dear Jonas' brothers. . .
The concept that love wins is hard to take when our insides are churning with unresolved conflict.
Serenity is the goal and the serenity prayer is valuable. Let me quote it:
God, (there is a good start!), grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference. Amen. (That is between the things I CAN change and the things I cannot)
Human nature is selfish to maintain the preservation of the species, but with more development, we should be other centered, and God gives that consciousness to those who choose to love and serve Him.
Well, you asked, didn't you? IMO

You said it; people are just plain selfish and self-centered. The reasons vary; though in general I would guess it's because these selfish people grew up the center of someone's world being led to believe that the world always owes them something. If you'll notice the few caring people are the ones who were always seemingly left out but learned it came down to this- What has a man gained if he has gained the world and lost his soul? In other words when integrity is more important to you; you'll do what's right! The only one you can change is yourself by doing your best to do the right thing, and hopefully this will set an example for others to follow. You will also notice that if you have the chance ask the most selfish people their birthorder ; you'll usually find that they are firstborn or an only child.

Ah, welcome to the multi-faceted world of jealousy. When we are jealous, we don't want to share because we want to be better than the other person/people. This emotional conflict has gone on since the human race was here. This, in turn, makes the other person/people react in the same way, probably unconciously protecting their territory, a God-knows-how old reaction to other people acting suspiciously.
If the average Joe/Josie wants to act in the opposite reaction to people, he/she has to go against millions of years of instinct, not an easy thing to do unless you've been doing that for most of you life.
I believe changing lies in how your parents raised you. If they tried their hardest to shape you into a good person with good morals and the instinctive ability to care (but within reason) about the golden rule (life does get back at you) while at the whole time being a loving parent/parents, then you'll probably turn out to be a pretty good person.
However, nowadays you probably have a better chance at changing for yourself. It does take a lot of discipline though, old habits die hard. So it's all up to yourself pretty much.

It's human nature. Society has moved towards everyone wanting to lead lives where every second is planned and there's always something to be done. Civilization is more connected than ever with technology, but social relationships aren't as important in many cases as they were in the past.
I think it's a vague question you're asking though. People don't care about what? If you're talking about things like suffering in the world and the terrible things that happen in various places and nobody in the developed world is too concerned about that, it's nothing new.

Care??? I have spent my whole life caring and giving. I am still giving and caring. I will until I drop. I really try to do the best I can and let others do as they wish. I also feel the more we give the more we receive. Maybe you need to give of yourself more. Good luck.

We could go back to relying on word of mouth to get news, which means we have to behave more socially with our neighbours.
That would mean binning the telly, newspapers and computer.
Besides, I think loads more people care than don't - you just hear about all the bad stuff.
