Morning all. 9.43AM here is Brisbane and sunny day.Thought you might like this, it is true.
While we were hicthiking around Europe, we were in Rome. We heard that Mount Vesuvius was starting to pour out smoke. We decided it would be "fun" (you are stupid, when you are 19!), so we took off to Naples.

One thing, that always remains in my memory, is the amazing site of four American Navy ships sailing into Naples, all the crew were on deck in formation, and it was just great to watch it.(Goosebump time).

Back to Vesivius. We climbed the side, not too far, and the rocks were very, very hot, and it sure was pouring smoke. Italians were ruuning down, we were going up. I am limited to characters! But then we decided that while we were in Naples, we should go and see the Isle of Capri, and the famous blue Grotto.

So we hopped on the ferry and went across.
Landed on Capri, and it was breathtaking.

NOW SEE MY QUESTION ON "THE MERMAIDS WHO GREW LEGS.

I never saw Mt Vesuvio smoking the few times I was the area. But I saw Mt. Etna (aka Mongibeddu) in Sicily pouring lava in 2003. I also saw Mt. Erebus in Antarctica smoking and climbed it with several others, helping with testing equipment back in 1972.

I saw Mt. Vesuvius in 1966-67 & 68, it wasn't smoking though! Capri is beautiful, especially the water. Portofino is also wonderful. I loved Italy. We took the ship Michaelangelo over and arrived in Naples and then went on to Rome, Florence and Venice . We were all over Italy. Lake Como is stunning. I have a mural of it in the office at home

I've never seen an active volcano except for the news clips about Mount Saint Helens.

The farthest I've been out of the United States has been to Ensenada on the Baja Peninsula. Beyond that, I'd have needed either a visa or a passport. I've never had either.

However, now I'm on my way to Australia (sans passport) to view a mermaid.

No. But on a Naval convoy to Australia in 1974 I witnessed an undersea volcanic eruption and the birth of a new island from the cooling lava. Even though I'm from an advanced civilization I wanted to climb into an outrigger and paddle over to worship it! LOL!
