Once the $$ hits the table and the customer takes even a step away from it, it's yours.
She has no right to ask for it back.
It's also your word against hers, right?
You COULD say that she only left two $1 bills !!
She's crazy.

How's this for the other side of the story. . .perhaps it went like this:
She eats, and then inadvertently lays TWO twenty dollar bills that were 'stuck' together on the table. If her bill for the meal was less than $50.00, then her $40.00 was obviously a mistake. I think you need to tell us the total of her eating/drinking, before we can so quickly say that it was 'your' money. Check out the other facts, eh?
Consider - do you want to have a great reputation with your boss/the customer/and your conscience? Which is better? the money (it is hard earned, I know) or a feeling of having helped a person who made an honest mistake?

Hell no! She has No Right! Was she drinking? This is in very poor taste. I wouldn't feel bad if I were you.
If you know her and she comes in often and leaves you $20 every time you may want to talk to her and give the 20 back. If you have never seen her before or she treats you bad when she is there I'd let her know very quickly that she may not like her next meal as, it could have stuff in it..

Yes, the server makes his/her living on tips, no matter how you pay for it, and therefore you should tip the same as you would if you were paying for dinner yourself. A lot of times you can put the tip on the gift card.

I dont think you owe it at all. I dont see how she has the nerve to ask for it back! Thats really sad. If shes that much of a tight wad then she shouldnt have left it in the first place! You keep it no matter what you earned it!

if she personally asks for it back. Give it to her. If not Keep It as a gift. Also could your Manager be trying to con you out of half your tip?.
