there is no pat answer to an intermittant condition though there are some things to look for. The first is to start with a proper diagnosis and to do that you need to take notes on when this happens--1st thing in the morning? after the car has been parked all day in the sun? after a long drive? after a short drive? On hot days? on cool days? etc. Any information about the conditions will eliminate possibilities and narrow it down.

most importantly, you need to have a system test run using pressure gauges. Typically the reason this happens is that your system is low on refrigerant. There is a 'low pressure' switch that will not allow the compressor to engage if the refrigerant level is low. If its hot outside then the ambient air temperature could cause the refrigerant gas to expand and raise the pressure in the system to a pressure above the cut-out value and allow the system to work. If its cool the gas could have a pressure below the cut-out value and the compressor would not engage. So have a pressure test run; that will tell you if your problem is due to refrigerant level or not. My guess is a simple recharge will fix your problem.

If the refrigerant system needs to be recharged then you'll also have to do a leak test to see where the refrigerant went. It could be a very slow leak around a seal that took 4 years to lower the refrigerant level in which case you'll probably not find the 'leak'. That's typically the finding.

If the refrigerant and pressures are ok then the problem is electrical and you would have to pursue that diagnosis to look for loose connections or high resistance values.

Have the system pressure tested and recharged first. Then, if that doesn't fix the problem, go from there.

hope that helps

it's no sensor or relay or electrical. it's a compressor with a bad clutch. if it's still under warranty, go to honda, or if it's not, go to the junk yard, or buy a new one. the same thing happened to my bro's 2004 tundra. luckily it was under warranty other wise it was a $1500 job, or do it yourself for $500(that's parts)

My guess is the sensor in the line is sensing an air bubble in the system.

You may have a bad relay or a bad connection to one of the harness that connects to the a/c. I would look for that.

your a/c clutch is not working . with the "thud" , is trying to
cycle the 134a (freon). with a bad a/c clutch , it will not cycle.
