The high specific heat of water means that a large amount of heat energy can be put into water before it undergoes a change in temperature. This is important to the human body because the body is composed mostly of water. Normal body temperature must be maintained, and if it isn't a variety of problems can result (which are beyond the scope of this question to discuss...suffice to say, it is imporant to avoid drastic changes in body temperature). Sine water has a high specific heat, it does an excellent job of resisting drastic elevations in temperature, thereby helping to prevent changes in body temperature.

Water. It is hard to change the temperature of the body, because ~90% of it is water, whose temperature is hard to change.
