Ahh, everyone should have something fun to do as a hobby. Some famous people use Ouija boards, including Bill Willson, the co-founder of Alcoholics anonymous ("Pass It On, New York A. A., 1984, pages 278-79 and 196-97"), who even said a spirit had given him the twelve-step method.
Here's what we do know about Ouija boards:
Famous skeptics/magicians James Randi, and Penn & Teller, have blindfolded people before using Ouija boards (Penn and Teller flipped the board upside down, so when people thought they were putting out "yes" and "no" responses, they were really pointing to blank spaces"), and no one, not even with the aid of spirits who, apparently, can "destroy homes", could spell out anything in English.
Now, the explanation a lot of mediums give for this, is that the Ouija board itself isn't important, and that it's just a tool the spirits use while communicating with the medium directly, and that the spirits need to be able to use the medium's eyes.
Well, if the Ouija board isn't important...
I'd like to ask you to look around you, for any examples of letters arranged in a pattern, and anything laying around that you could use to point at those letters. Hey hey, you're on a computer! Great. And you're looking at something with letters, AND a cursor! Swell. Let's continue.
Now, remember. There's nothing special about Ouija boards. They're made by Parker Brothers, the same people that make Monopoly. So let's forget about them for a second.
All it took to get the spirits to contact you, was lighting a few candles. You know what an electric light is? It's burning filimant that gives off light.
It's a candle.
What's my point? My point is, if the spirits could "get you" while you were playing Ouija...
... they could get you any time they wanted to. They don't need to wait for you to crack open a Ouija board. They could do it right now. And whatever reasons or motivations they have when you're playing Ouija, they have the exact same reasons and motivations at this exact moment.
It demands concentration, you say?
Guess what I just got you to do. That's right, concentrate on the message I've been sending.
There's probably evil spirits coming into your home through your computer right now.
Well, that, or Ouija boards are silly. Take your pick.
Try not to think too much about that when you're trying to get to sleep ;)

You shouldn't do it if you're not going to be serious and respectful of the entities you try and contact... As another user said, the spirit could have been simply trying to spell out "hello" and not "hell."
As for the atheists Penn & Teller blindfolding people, of course it makes sense that they were unable to point to the correct places. If a spirit is indeed present than it is likely acting THROUGH YOU and therefore needs your senses of sight and such as much as you would.
I find it funny that people will believe a television program before a supernatural experience, anyways... But that's their problem.
Anyways, there are other ways to contact those on the other side that will be safer and more meaningful... For instance, try meditation. You simply sit comfortably, close your eyes and mouth, and breathe in and out slowly while focusing on your breath while not having any other thoughts in your mind. If you practice enough, you should be able to do some pretty amazing things, from what I've been told.
Good luck.

my aunt and I play with them all the time. one time however we contacted someone evil. We quickly ended the connection and we were fine, until the next time we played. The same person we had talked to was back. We closed the connection once again. This went on for at least a week, and no matter what we said or did he kept coming back. He said terrible things and they got worse every time we tried to contact someone else. We eventually had to burn the board. After that we bought a new board and had no more problems with that person. We still play and sometimes we get good and sometimes we get bad. It just depends.

I have seen many results from Ouija board users one is to become obsessed and another is to be possessed!
"The Ouija board is a vehicle which makes it easy for negative spirits and demonic forces to enter this plane of existence." cautioned that evil spirits or demonic forces often gain the trust of people experimenting with Ouija boards by answering several questions truthfully and providing predictions.
"Once they have gained the trust of their victims, it is easy for the entity to move in and take over either by strongly influencing that person, or by outright possession," .
People who are untrained and unsophisticated in the field of the paranormal and supernatural should never play with devices such as the Ouija board!
Don't Get Trapped with Ouija boards
If you want to communicate with Spirits work on your Psychic senses then do it the right way it may take longer however it is more rewarding : ) The easy way is not always the right way, you have to work for your rewards with knowledge

The Ouija Board is bad. Do you know who Sylvia Brown is? She appears on the Montel Williams show every Wednesday. She is an amazing Psychic. She has said time and time again to lots of people to stay away from the Ouija Board. She said all it is, is a door to evil spirits. Nothing good will ever come from a Ouija Board.

First off Ouija boards are parlor tricks. Meaning that subconsciously the group is actually answering itself. This was proved when participants were blindfolded and a third party not touching the "oracle" wrote down the answers. They came across as pure jibberish.
However, if you choose to believe, then my first point will be if an "entity" is evil, why would it bother to tell you? Wouldn't it accomplish it's evil doings by lying? As for playing with it, you're honestly wasting your time. It's a joke, a lark - nothing more than a game. This is why these boards are sold in the toy section.

I was curious just like you and played w/ an Ouija board. It was a big mistake and I will never do it again. You are lucky that nothing bad happened to you,so advise you to go no further. One girl did the same thing you did and went to far.She did it and the spirit destroyed her whole house. If you think that is nothing, the spirits can do a lot more damage!

There's a chance it's real and you're playing with something you don't understand, it could be trouble.
On the other hand, there's a chance it's just a game you feel is entertaining and won't do anything.
Something isn't so right either way. Maybe find an unquestionable hobby.
