Find places who specialize in extra casting using some of the tools I suggest or something like them and go through the process I suggest. Remember that the rate of return initially can be as low as 3%-5% and some things might not come about for a long time, so you will need to be patient and persistent.

It will also depend on other things like your headshot, how well you write and other things.

Good luck!

An extra is a body in the shot. He/she has not speaking lines. As a body you must do certain things, walk, smile, be sad, run, cry whatever, but you do not say anything. And extra must be part of a union. So you have to join the Extras union. They have a job list at the union hall. You go there to get sent out for a job. A director wants 10 people various ages, male or female. ect. You get the gig and are paid the day rate for extras, maybe $100 a day or something like that. YOu have to live in the area where there is enough work to keep you busy most days. This can be a way to get discovered by a director, who at the last minute needs someone to say "hello," in a scene. That will make you an actor, and then you have to join the actors guild.

there are extra casting agencies like Central Casting that you can rergister with and they will call you if your type is needed.
Sometime extra casting is advertised in the paper or on the radio and you just go and sign up. As an extra you are just a body in the background so it looks like a real place instead of a movie set. You don't usually do much, but you do what the assistant director tells you to do. It's fun and easy and you get free lunch and can learn a lot about film making from being on the set.

Extra's are the folk who play part but not foreground nor feature on a film set. Extras are needed for every production as they are part and parcel to reflect daily life. That is to say..if filming on Boardwalk speaking to someone in the news...the extras in this case are the people walking by, coming by, sitting by, acting by..making the production of the set a complete picture. It is not a job to be an extra - you can add your name to the list of production houses who frequently need them..though they are not advertised as frequently as they should be.

if there is a play being filmed in your area, they'll put up casting calls for extras, as an extra, you kinda just act like a backround person

Basically when a movie is being filmed in your town you might see a small ad on tv (local news), the internet, or the newspaper where it will give an address asking for further information. They usually ask for your picture and contact information and they will get back with you if they are interested.
