I'm normally very good with pms. It doesn't bother me, the one time it got out of hand was the first time I had my period on Seasonique.
I'm not so good with remembering to take the pill everyday and I'l like to try nuvaring or an iud, but I've heard that nuvaring has some pretty bad hormonal side effects.
I'm 19, I only have sex with my boyfriend and I don't smoke.
Suggestions?

..I don't want to hear any "Just don't have sex crap." Don't force your beliefs on me.

There are several things you can try. You can try an IUD, and they can last 5 or 10 years. If you are not planning on having children in the near future, they are a good choice.
There is depo provera, but you can only be on that for 2 years, and you have to go to the doctor's office every 3 months.
A new implant was approve recently. It is called implanon. I haven't heard much about it. It does not have the removal issues that the other implant had. It is expensive though.
There is the patch, but there are clotting issues.
The Sponge was just put back on the market.
With Nuva Ring, you have to be comfortable with its removal technique.

Well, I personally am not very good with remember to take the pill either.

So, I got on the Depo shot.

I havent personally tried anything other than those 2 things so I cant say yay or nay to the NuvaRing or an IUD. I do know that while researching birth control I didn't like the idea, or trust the idea of sticking something inside there and leaving it be.

So, I guess Im not much help. However, I will not suggest you try the Depo shot. I was on it for a year, gained soooo much weight, it messed with me emotionally and mentally and after I finally got off of it I had the worst periods, which were irregular for a year.

I think the IUD is recommended mainly for women who already have kids but check with your doctor. There are 2 main types available - Paraguard (non-hormonal)and Mirena (small amount of hormones). Below are their websites:

http://www.paragard.com/paragard/index.php

I'm not sure about the nuvaring but I am very wary about introducing anything to my body that changes/alters/adds hormones and hormone levels. I just think some things shouldn't be messed with.

Here are some non-hormonal solutions:
Today Sponge (over the counter - works great!)
Condoms (over the counter - protects against everything!)
Diaphragm (you need to be fitted for this one)

Best of Luck to You!

You could try the Depo Shot. It usually helps you have NO period and NO pain. It doesn't always work for everyone though. All my friends are on it, but me! I tried it for 6 months and it made me crabby and clot alot!!! But my friends HIGHLY recommend it especcially for someone who can not remember to take a pill (like me). Good luck!
