I have a row of plastic pinwheels in my garden, six are 6 to 8 inches big and three are 10 to 12 inches big. When the wind blows and all the pinwheels are spinning, why do the small pinwheels spin counterclockwise and the big pinwheels spin clockwise? Does it have anything to do with the size of the pinwheels?

it all depends on the pitch of the blades (or fins). Look at them closely, I'm sure the bigger ones have blades turned one way and the smaller ones blades are turned the opposite way. Therefore as the breeze is caught by the blades it pushes the wheels in opposite directions.

no, it has to do with the way the little wingies on them are turning if they are turning into the wind they will go clockwise, if they are turning away from the wins they will go counterclockwise
