expand the 2 to both and -4d on the left side.

=> 12 - 8d = 25 - 9d

add 9d on both sides.

12 + 1d = 25

minus 12 on both sides

d= 13

Solve items inside ( ).
12 - 8d = 25 - 9d
Add 9d to both sides.
Subtract 12 from both sides.

12 - 8d = 25 - 9d
-12 + 9d = -12+9d

d = 13

2(6-4d)=25-9d
Remove the parentheses getting:
12-8d =25 -9d
Move all like terms so they are on same side. Remember to change their sign when you move them.
9d-8d = 25-12
Collect the like terms, getting:
d = 13

2(6-4d)=25-9d
distribute, 12-8d=25-9d
+8d +8d
12=25-d
-25
-13=d

2(6-4d)=25-9d

Distribute:
2(6) - (4d)(2) = 25 - 9d
12 - 8d = 25 - 9d
-8d = 25 - 9d - 12
-8d = 13 - 9d
-8d + 9d = 13
d = 13

2007-09-27 12:22:21 · answer #5 · answered by Anonymous · 0 0

first multiply out 2(6-4d) which equals 12-8d

so now you have 12-8d=25-9d

now add 8d to both sides so you now have 12=25-1d

now solve for d: subtract 25 from both sides and you get:

-13=-1d so d=13
