You have to make it safe to be safe there. If you want to be safe, you put your settings on the safest mode of all. Don't lie about your age either or there are safety's that go off if you say you are an adult.
Put the settings on accepting only friends who know your last name, and your profile to private. Do not put your real last name anywhere or what city or state you live in or what school you go to. Do not discuss your location or school by name in your blog.

It totally depends. It can be safe if you have it set to private, make sure to only have friends you actually know, and don't give out personal information. Otherwise it can be a dangerous place for perverted people. Personally, I'm super careful about what information I put out on the web, so I don't have a myspace, but if I did, I would do everything I just told you. Maybe you could make a list of things that you would do to make sure you were staying safe. You could promise her you won't say where you live or how old you are, or something like that.

As a user of Myspace I believe that it is safe as long as you are aware what you are posting on your profile such as personal information.
When signing up to Myspace your profile is automtically defauting as being a private profile which means that only you and people you add can see your Myspace. Anyone else you don't know or who are just browsing through profiles will be declined any access.
It is not compulsary to post anything such as age and where you live.
I hope this helps a bit :)
Oh and when you do sign up to Myspace a guy named Tom will add you. Don't worry, he's just the creator of the site and adds everyone new to Myspace :P You can decline him as a friend if you wish :)
Have a great day and keep smiling! :D

Tell her this simple answer- internet predators can only give them the information YOU PUT THERE. Therefore, MySpace is perfectly safe if you don't post anything that a stalker can use- for example, don't post your address or where you hang out.
The best thing to do is check the privacy settings- you can hide your profile to everyone that isn't a friend. You have to approve who is a friend so you can check if someone requests to be your myspace friend.

MySpace is NO safer than the rest of the Internet is... So if your Mom lets you I.M. & surf the Web- she might as well let you have a MySpace Account. Good Luck! :)

It can be safe. It just depends on what you put in your profile. Don't put your last name or where you live. Only talk/add people you know. Make your profile private and it will be very safe.

all you have to do is do the number one rule do not give out your private infomation.
the best way you can stay safe is to make it for your friends only. this means you can privatize it this means that no one can see your site other then friends. if some one still wants to be friends you can look over his or her site first.
try to tell your mom that they can look on your stuff if she want's unless it will be private to you.
tell your mom to look at a site on how to be safe on my space.
its not dangerous if your smart. thats with any site though
good luck
