3 wks ago I started getting mentrual-like cramps that was targeted mainly on my left side. After about 2 wks of that I went to the Health Center at the college I go to and saw a Physician. She did a pelvic exam and I had some blood work done. Now after 2 1/2 wks of cramping the pain turned into general pelvic pain, the pain doesn't feel like cramping anymore... it's worse! So I went back to the Health Center she says that all the tests she did on me came out normal and so she doesn't know what else she can do for me but suggest that I go to a Gynecologist. My problem is that I don't have any health insurance, the only thing I have is Family Pact & it might cover another pelvic exam by the Gyn but nothing else. I might have to have an ultrasound done & would have to pay that cash. So far the cheapest Gyn I've been able to find is $100 for consult (might not have to pay that b/c I have Family Pact) & $100 for an ultrasound. Should I just apply for health insurance now ($144/mo +$50 cpay)

or should I just try to find the cheapest way out of this? What I'm worried about is that I might have something serious and go through surgery or something and I'm sure surgery procedures won't be too cheap if I'm paying cash. Also, what if I need medication...

Also I heard that if I get insurance after seeing someone for this, if my insurance finds out then the insurance would charge me for it. Is that true?

The issue that some insurance companies find a problem is the issue of pre-existing conditions which I think is what you are talking about. Check with the city health dept to see if they offer a free women's clinic. If they do have one and the doctor there decides to do an ultrasound check with them to find out about a payment plan so that you don't have to pay it out all at once.

For the surgical issue if surgery is needed, ask them as well as the hospital where the surgery is done about special programs to help those in need when it comes to covering the cost of surgery. A friend of mine had to do that with the help of an organization that helps people in need.

What you say about insurance and how it works (or doesn't)
is true. Regardless of insurance,
I would get My Simple Card regardless to get
_guaranteed_ savings on Specialist Exams as well as
Ultrasounds that you need. You're doing the right thing
by shopping around for a doctor. With the Simple Card
in your hands, you'll be able to do the same, yet get
a lower price every time.

I would get insurance, you never know what it could be. For example, I had pelvic pain and it turned out to be endometriosis and I had to have a laparoscopy, you can't see it in an ultrasound. Better safe than sorry...you're going to need insurance at some point anyways, having pain is a good enough reason for me to get it. Good Luck!
