Given how often U.S. citizens speak of freedom and how the U.S. is the supposed bastion of freedom, I am curious as to how well the citizens know their First Amendment rights. WITHOUT looking up the answer, can you list what rights are guaranteed by the First Amendment?

I was NOT able to list them all, having missed two. Given how often we speak of freedom, I would think that we all should know at least what those freedoms are.

Without looking them up:
Speech, religion (to practice and be free of establishment), assembly, press, petition the government for redress of grievances...I think that's it.

Being a 'fan' or the US Constitution, without looking it up and from memory:

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

There are 2, the first is freedom of expression, free speech. The second is that the Government will make no law concerning religion. What they meant was that no Government would back one religion over another and would be prevented from setting up a State approved religion.

speech/expression, assembly, press, religion

I didn't look it up - hope I got them.

I like the 10th Amendment - nobody ever remembers that one.

-- argh I missed the "and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances"

(technically the constitution doesn't grant freedoms, it limits government in making laws to restrict freedom)

Lemme see...freedom of speech, print, question our government, assemble, and freedom of religion. I think there is one more, though, eh?
