The space shuttle is a space ship. Check out any nasa site and they will also have pictures of a space station. However, as for alien spacecraft, no one on earth would have any way of knowing what it looks like. We have not been 'visited' so how could we know?

In general, I would say, very cramped. If you have a chance to go to Washington, you can see the Mercury and Apollo capsules in real life. It is the only way to experience how much courage it must have taken the astronauts to be on those rides. Amazing!
The pictures on the internet are not very useful to get a feeling for the technology because they can not reproduce the small volume effect of those vehicles.
The International Space Station, in contrast is quite large, but only because it does not have to go anywhere.
Future spaceships will be a little bit roomier than those in the past, but only very slightly so. Volume is very expensive in terms of launch mass and launch mass costs enormous amounts of money. A large space ship is not necessarily a better one, either, because more things can go wrong with a large machine than with a small one. And there are plenty of things that can go wrong with a small space ship already.
Human spaceflight does not lend itself to be particularly aesthetic, in any case, because we are not meant to be in space. In contrast, the fragile beauty of planetary space probes like the Voyager (also on display in Washington) is something to be seen.

For information on the design and construction of space capsules and the Space Shuttle, try an internet search on "spacecraft design."
www.nasa.gov has lots of pictures of the interior of the Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo spacecraft and the Space Shuttle.

The earth is one of the biggest and best space ships I know. Most of the environment is auto recycled.
