I have to get tested but i had a question... Can Endometriosis be treated?? and after medication can have kids. Im just really worried. Or should i not even worry about it ?? Can the OB know if u have it by doing a pap smear or do i have to get tested specially for that??

Hello,
Just wanted to give you a little info that may help in answering your questions. First endo is treatable in that there are options that makes it more manageable...there is not, however, a "cure" for it. Secondly, depending on the severity of your endo, and where it is (bowel, ovary, etc.) will determine what treatment options are available and if it is caught early enough most women have no problems with getting pregnant. Finally, the OB will have to test you and a pap smear will not get the job done. Many women have a laproscopy (I hope I spelled that right :-) done. I actually had an ultra sound at which time it was determined I had a growth on my ovary and subsequently, I found out I had endo. Having Endo does not have to be an infertility sentence but do not put off getting the diagnosis and getting treatment b/c if you do it only progresses. I hope this helps. You may want to check out www.endocenter.org. for more info. Good Luck to you.

Yes, endometriosis can be treated with not only surgery to remove as much visible disease as is possible but for some with the help of medication.

As for the issue of fertility, there are women who have endo that were able to get pregnant within the first 6 to 12 months after the laparoscopy to remove as much endo as possible. This happened to my next door neighbor who had a laparoscopy for a different reason and when they went in they found that she had some endo growing. They removed as much of what they could see and about 3 months after that she got pregnant with her second daughter who is now about 6 years old.

The only way to diagnose endo definitively is thru laparoscopy. A pap smear will not pick up the actual endometriosis.

I don't know a lot about it, just that if you have severe endometriosis, the eggs will not make it down the fallopian tubes to combine with the sperm. I don't know if they can treat it, but I do know that they could retrieve eggs and you could have a test-tube baby. Pap smear is looking at your cervix, not your ovaries or fallopian tubes.

The only way to see if you have endo is to do a laparoscopy..and I promise it's not nearly as bad as it seems (ive had 2). When I had my first lap, my doctor removed it all and mine hasn't grown back since(3 years ago)...the 2nd lap was for a cyst. As far as concieving, I haven't tried yet

She'll test you and give you the proper treatment. The severity is where the treament differs.

The sad thing is alot of Endo patients are sterile after this condition. The lining up your uterus is in the faloppian tubes...removing it causes scar tissue...it will cease to function the same way it has.
