I have the first Ford Taurus year model ever made! It's a 1983. Right now it's a little rusted with faded paint and a torn up interior. I want to restore it from the ground up so it will look like new again. It will cost over $10,000 USD. New paint, interior, powertrain, steering, suspension, brakes, rims, undercarriage. Everything.

I think the first Taurus was the prettiest modern Sedan there ever was. Don't you people agree? It's about as American as a car can get besides the Ford Model - T.

Aside from the Taurus I also what to aquire a restored Ford Model - A. I want to drive it daily. Do you guys think it makes a good daily driver or will it have trouble keeping up with traffic?

Only restore it if spending $10,000 on a Taurus is worth it to you. It's not likely to hold much collector value. You're not likely to be able to sell even a 100 point concors restoration of a Taurus for $10,000. Maybe in 20 years.

But if you want a pristine '83 Taurus, it's your money. I've seen people pour more money into less popular cars. A car project only needs to make sense to its owner.

Sorry! Spending $10k to restore a Taurus is throwing money away. There were so many produced that year, that it is not a collector, plus it has nothing special to make it a collector. Spend tha $10k on a '67 mustang (I figure you must be a ford fanatic), and put your monies into that project, as that will pay back huge dividends if done correctly. A Taurus was intended to be, and designed to be a "throw away" car, like a Yugo.

We have a guy at the truck plant that drives a model A. He doesn't really use it all the time, but he will drive it in to work fairly often. It is all stock, and restored. I don't think he uses it on the freeway, but instead takes the city streets.

There are a bunch of other guys with street rods that will drive them in also, but they have no problem getting up to highway speeds, since they all have hopped up V-8's in them.

You can buy all of the parts new and have a complete model A with no used parts in it at all. Just do a search.

good luck

Go ahead and restore the Taurus if it makes you happy, but don't EVER expect to get more than a third of what you put into it.

A model "A" should not be driven on the freeway or interstate. Too slow.
