Just want to make this point first: Why do women feel qualified to answer this question? (With the exception of Sharmel, who demonstrates deep understanding of the issue)
I am against the barbaric practice of circumcision. Heres just a few of the many reasons why:
1) The foreskin is there for a purpose - to protect the glans (head) of the penis. Removing it causes it to keratinise (basically means the skin gets thicker), resulting in continually reducing pleasure as the individual ages.
2) Removing the foreskin, which, in infants, is usually done without any pain relief - occasionally resulting in infection and death-and dont believe the liars who say it doesnt hurt - the foreskin has the highest number of nerve receptors in the body. It is not a numb area - ask any intact man who has caught his foreskin in his fly!
3) The practice of circumcision has changed. In ancient times, only a portion of the foreskin was removed. But since Dr. Kellogg (of Kelloggs Corn Flakes fame!) insisted that it should be done as aggressively as possible, in the 1800`s (removing all loose skin) to deter boys from the natural practice of masturbation. Obviously, Dr Kellogg had some unresolved issues.
4) Cleanliness. This really is a no brainer. How much effort does it take for a guy to roll his foreskin back and wash underneath? Most uncut guys do this as part of their hygene routine daily anyway. So, for the idiots who state "Circumcision is cleaner" - yes it is - but only if you dont wash. Otherwise, its the same. Who doesnt wash before sex?
Hope this helps you cut through all of those parrot fashion statements and nonsense propaganda for justifying this barbarous, disfiguring act.

I am against it and my two boys were left natural and whole and have no issues and have actually thanked me. Many say the dad should decide because he has a penis. However, if dad is cut, he does not know about all of the pleasure that the full mechanism provides. I believe all of the benefits are contrived. People that are cut or from cut tradition, trying to keep the practice going. Trying to justify the pain and permanent lose of pleasure, function and mechanics. The foreskin is not just skin and does not just protect the glans(head). Circumcision is now known to ablate the most sensitive parts of the male genitals. This surgery takes away the main male pleasure zones with over 20000 fine touch and stretch nerve endings amputated. The foreskin has several parts including the ridged band that is great for ones pleasure (that is why nutters like Kellogg wanted to chop em off, to curtail masturbation), Masturbation is important for a mans physical and mental health. The ridged band directly contacts the vagina for very great pleasure all around. The dynamics of sex and the actual mechanism of the penis are drastically changed by circumcision. The foreskin can normally be slipped all the way, or almost all the way, back to the base of the penis, and also slipped forward beyond the glans. This wide range of motion is the mechanism by which the penis and the orgasmic triggers in the foreskin, frenulum, and glans are stimulated The only touch organ possessing as rich erogenous innervation as the foreskin is the clitoris. Circumcision deprives man of 2/3ds of the main erogenous zone constituted of the foreskin and the glans. IMO, it is NEVER appropriate to take erogenous tissue from another human being without asking. He may want that pleasure and the dynamics /mechanics of the full package, particularly as he gets old.

My opinion is that a baby boy should only be circumcized if there is a medical problem with his foreskin, and it would be in his best interest to remove it. Any other reasons, such as religion, tradition or culture are totally wrong, and I think the decision should be left up to the guy when he's an adult and able to make his own choice about whether he has an integral part of his penis cut off.

There is no point. It's just cultural. People do it because it's what they're used to, or they believe the myths about it being "cleaner" (which are promoted so that those who had it done for no reason don't feel so bad). The evidence relating to STIs, cancer etc. is so limited and not seriously proven - anyway it was "proven" in the 1800s that it "cured" masturbation, epilepsy, bed-wetting...not true! Most men aren't circumcised. It's just a religious thing for Muslims and Jews, and a cultural thing due to misunderstanding of the intact penis, in the USA.

A very very very long time ago, in parts of the world where heat and dust and infection were an especially big problem, the elders of those communities realised that the foreskin was very susceptible to infections, and often the source of a lot of trouble

But as with many things in those times, it carried a lot more impact if you told people that God demanded circumcision, than just to tell them that in your opinion it was a wise and beneficial thing to do to avoid health problems. In particular, this is what the Jewish Race came to accept as an edict direct from God, so at least in all extremely orthodox families, they always adhered strictly to this rule of circumcision.

But that was thousands of years ago before anybody had a clue about the nature of bacteria, and viruses, and disease-prevention other than what they observed as somehow being beneficial. Today we are all about disinfectants, and antibiotics, and cleanliness, and we understand the principles of infection prevention, and have available to us all kinds of treatments in the event they do occur. There really is NO logical, rational, or credible reason these days to circumcise a boy baby, other than to satisfy an ancient religious practise.

Indeed, when it comes to this, most private and personal body part, one would think respect for the individual, and as a basic ethical principle, we ought to wait for that baby boy to grow to his age of full maturity and self-determination, so that he, and nobody else, makes that decision. It seems to me that this is just another instance where adults are inclined to inflict their own personal religious beliefs on to helpless children.

When that child has grown to his full manhood, with all the attendant education, understanding, and self-determining abilities, and he still embraces the religious belief system of his parents and family - or he believes for himself that circumcision is something he finds acceptable, then he can declare this to be his wishes, and let his wishes be acceptable to all.

the reason that people do it is because so many people spread old wives tales. As you will know from being married to an intact guy, we are not dirty, do not spread diseases anymore than a cut guy and are NATURAL. I'm uncut and have never had a problem with it, nobody has ever picked on me about it and I left my son the same. It is possible to teach a child to clean it like any part of his body.
If we were not meant to have it then why are we born with it.
If a man wants to get it done as an adult then go for it, he is an adult and can make that choice for himself. We don't have the right to make it for him.

Medical reasons.

Hygiene. Having seen the difference, I can safely say that the circumcised one is easier to keep clean. Stuff tends to get stuck under the foreskin, which is just gross, not to mention the fact that a guy has to work a little harder to stay clean.

Culture...

But also there have been some medical reasons for it. It is said to prevent or reduce infection by keeping the area cleaner.
