Mean = - 15 / 3
Mean = - 5

By definition:

The mean of the data set is its average.
To find the mean you add up all the numbers and divide the answer by how many numbers you have.

(-10 - 8 + 3)/3 = -15/3 = -5

The mean is the average. So how do you get the average?
(-10+-8+3) = (-18 +3) = (-15)/3 = (-5)

To find the mean, add up all the numbers and divide by how many numbers there are (in this case, there are three numbers, so you would divide by three)

-10 + -8 + 3 = -15

-15/3 = -5

I think first you must know what a "mean" is. Mean is another word for average. An average/mean is the sum of the all the values given divided by the number of values given:

You were given -10, -8, 3.
There are 3 values.

So you want to add up all three values: -10 + -8 + 3 = -15
Then divide: -15/3 = -5

I hope this helps!

Good luck! :)

Mary
