Public Company ? Check the share price ...

Of course Accounts & HR both know what's going on, but they will all be sworn to secrecy ..

Have you seen a lot of 'suits' walking around with clipboards? (valurers and auditors usually turn up just before the place is sold off or goes to the wall)

Most Companies have Sales Staff and Warehouse / Delivery Staff .....talk to them ..

Sales will know if any Major accounts have been lost or if the market has dried up .. (and if Sales Staff are bing 'let go' .. a major indication of problems ahead)
Warehouse will know if the shelves are empty (i.e. Company can't afford new stock) or if the shelves are overflowing (Company can't sell old goods) ..
Delivery will know if there has been a drastic reduction in goods being shipped ..

Final indication is when Job Agencies start ringing you up asking if you would like to submit your CV ...

Not necessarily, the cost cutting is used by so many companies to put the company on track. For example if the wages costs is exceeding the budget set for the company wages costs, to bring it in line ,they have to reduce the number of employees and the senior managers are the highest paid people.

Are they jumping ship and not being replaced? If the company is publicly traded, you can look up financial reports on Yahoo Finance or pinksheets.com. Maybe they know something they are not sharing and the company is about to tank.

what's the word around the watercooler? use the grapevine. usually rumors are all over the place before a company tanks or gets taken over by another company. if a sr manager you know is leaving, ask him/her why?

When you're the only one left, it may be easier to answer your question..........If you can't wait that long , why not apply for a promotion or a pay rise & see what happen's then !.
