I would consider creating a concept album out of an interesting theme. I'd like to combine some folk and synth punk elements together because you don't always hear that....
hmm...I'd also like to revive some elements of new wave, with a bit of glam punk. Good, intelligent lyrics are an absolute must! the sort that tell a different narrative with each song -- yeah.

edit : Oh - instruments, yes! Let's see. I would incorporate lots of slide guitar (a la George Harrison) and acoustic guitars for the more folky stuff, but synth of course with electric, and xylophone to create a lullabye sort of ambience to some of the folk songs. Lots of tambourine. I also really like the sound of bongos ... they have a tendency to sound mismatched in certain songs, but if you use 'em right, they sound good.

The album would really jump around, there'd be some punk rock, some standard numbers, some slower stuff, and some rock.
There'd definitly be a lot of guitars and some brass instruments to add some emotion and dynamic effects to some of the songs. I think I'd keep the drums to a bit of a behind the scenes role, they'd still add a lot of drive to the music but not be on the front lines.
The lyrics would probably be pretty personal because when I write lyrics to a song it's usually got something to do with my life.
I think the biggest influences you'd hear would be Frank Sinatra, Arctic Monkeys, The Boomtown Rats, Muse and Paul Simon. I picked these artists because generally when I think about how I'd change a song I'm listening to or if I where to add music to lyrics it would most clearly reflect the styles of the artists listed above. Also there some of my favorite artists and definitly will sing along to several of their songs, so they've probably had a bigger impact than some of the other bands I like.

I'd have the classic Instruments:
Lead Guitar
Rhythm Guitar
Bass Guitar
Drums
Vocals

My influences would be a strange mix of; Guns N' Roses, Babes in Toyland and The Sisters of Mercy.

Guns N' Roses for the guitar and bass work mostly.
Good heavy bass lines [drums to compliment it] and guitar solos that'd blow people away.

Babes in Toyland - Vocals. Kat Bjelland's voice is just something to be marvelled. It's gritty and cute and aggressive all at the same time.

Sisters of Mercy - They had a way of making songs feel /so/ mellow to me.. like.. even if the words weren't particularly calm, the song always had this.. sensual feeling to it.
I'd incorporate that into it too.

I'd have lyrics that meant something to me, but not straightforward lyrics.
No: "i hate my life, it's rubbish" or whatever. Well maybe some of that, but I'd want more complex, metaphorical lyrics.
That way, the listener could interpret it whichever way he/she sees fit.
It would end up being very dark, because I'm possibly the most negative person there is.
My poems and stories [oh how "emo"] are like that.
But I'd semi-disguise some songs, so that they sounded light-hearted but still had that raw emotion in them...bittersweet.
Or perhaps have music that contrasted with the lyrical content.
They wouldn't all be negative though, and they wouldn't all be particularly deep. It's good to throw some good ol' light-hearted tunes in there just to rock out to.

I put a lot of thought into this, hehe.
I'd love to have a band, and be able to play live, and make albums and such... but i have no talent =]. ha.

Great question.
I apologise for the length, i got carried away.

RQ.

Alternative, rock, ambient electronica.

I love Smashing Pumpkins, No Doubt, Dave Matthews Band and Garbage so I guess the album would take a little bit of their sounds.

I love DMB because which other band has the sounds of violin, bass, guitars and drums all mixed together? So violins would be nice, along with the Indonesian percussion gamelan. It would create a very mystical sound and I think I'll have the introduction of a song with the gamelan playing!

Lyrics... Corgan's the modern poet but I'm no poet... I want to draw the lyrics from life and experiences we go through as humans.

There would definitely be piano, flute, electric guitar, drums, acoustic guitar, vocals (yes, I consider that an instrument), maybe some other stuff every once in a while....

The lyrics would be kinda Linkin Park-ish, even though it's impossible to copy their AMAZING style. But like, about living and stuff. Not any of that new stuff about like "OMG. He loves me, but he doesn't! The horror!"

My influence would come from Linkin Park, Immortal Technique, Fergie, Michelle Branch, and Natasha Bedingfeild.

Oops. Sorry for writing a long answer.

I'm in a band. If we made an album (which we intend on doing eventually) it be simple with just guitar, drums, bass, and vocals. The vocals would be whisper quiet; the guitar would embrace all styles and have lots of solos; the drums would be front and center (the heart and soul of our music) with jazz influences; the bass would be like Krist Noveselic's from Nirvana. Pretty sweet huh?

very atmospheric and dark, with a voice that has this sedative effect. lyrics would be dark, and have much less of an effect than the voice. music sometimes a deafening quiet or just loud.
with the standard instruments plus lots of xylophones and glockshpiels (sp?).
but it would all be very beautiful, maybe sometimes beautiful in an ugly way.
with a heavy influence from radiohead, sigur ros, and mike patton.

I think my band would have the token guitar, bass and drum line-up, but occasionally I would like to throw some different elements in, like trumpets and trombones, or some Latin-flavored percussion. I'm not really sure about the lyrics, but the overall sound would be metal-funk-Latin blend.

Hmmm...after reading this I'm wondering if this is one of those things that sounds better on paper... :)

I'd have classical violins in the back ground (like The Cruxshadows) with deep bass (like Heavens to Betsy or The Misfits) and a scratchy guitar (like Gang of Four or Bauhaus).

I'd have horror themed lyrics, and the above would be my influences.
