You messed up and did some crimes, and you did not follow through with the justice system. So people are going to be shy about hiring you. The ones that do may just want you for your looks and might expect "favors".

So you should just get a job, any respectable job, and keep out of trouble. Food service would be fine. Waiting tables and such. Show you are no longer a criminal, then go for the job you want later. 4 months ago is not long at all, it should be no surprise that people are skeptical.

Not all companies do background checks. Hospitals, banks and county/state jobs definitely do background checks. If your theft is a misdemeanor, they MIGHT(and i stress the work MIGHT)let it slide, depending on what your job is. Lots of clothing stores in the mall do not conduct background check(mainly because of high turnover and that would cost too much $$$), it is possible you can work in the back office of a clothing store or a small health clinic.

Your looks do not have a lot to do with how well you can do the job. Yeah you may be pretty, but first impressions are everything. Of course you want to look professional for an interview. You always want to show them that you're serious about getting your life together. Everyone's screwed up before, but not everyone is willing to fix it. if you show how serious and dedicated you are, they are more likely to disregard your record, all depending on what job you're applying for.

I can't speak for every employer in terms of background checks, but generally the younger you are, the more likely an employer is to let stuff like that slide.

If it happened when you were 15, and you're 21 now, it should be less of an issue than if it happened last week.

Being petite and pretty shouldn't have any impact what so ever on your employment status.

But generally speaking, a month is a short amount of time to be looking. Don't get discouraged just yet.

Petite and pretty counts in retail and strip clubs .
If that is what you are promoting instead of your clerical skills ,
They Won't be calling you .
They want skilled / quality workers ,
And the background check does not only criminal but also credit checks .

Maybe get a restaurant job until you have some work time on your history and the other issues fade away .
The theft would be a problem in retail .
