I believe in the possibility. Your reasoning is based upon a guess. One should rely upon scientific evidence as proof. So far, there exists only Martian meteorites which have evidence of microbial life. This is not enough to state, as you do, that there must exist life elsewhere in the universe. Opinions are healthy but how do you back up your opinion without evidence?

With the vastness of the Universe it is not only naive of us to believe that we are the only life form, it is negligent. However, the possibility of the planet Earth having been 'visited' as such is highly unlikely. For example the next nearest star to us is Proxima Centauri and is around 4 ly away. That equates to a round trip of around 8 years if it were even possible travel at light speed, which it is not.
That being the case, if it were possible that a civilisation has the technology to make it as far as us, they would let us know they were here!
For such a civilisation to exist, they would have advanced well past just coming here without contacting us.
By Earth years, such beings would be 100's if not 1000's of years old. Even if they had conquered light speed (which btw is impossible) it would take about 20 years for them to reach us. The reason I say only 20 years is that is based on the nearest Earth-like planet is only about 20 light-years from us. When I say Earth-like, I do not wish to confuse you. The use of the term Earth-like only really refers to it being a terrestrial planet, not just gas. However, if they had only even managed to reach 99% of light speed, it would take them far longer than 20 years to reach us.
This is just a very simplified explanation and by no means the only reason, why we have NOT been 'Visited'
I posted this yesterday in responce to exactly the same question - it is asked at least twice a day...

I have found this site whilst not the most technical, explains things in simple easy to understand terms.

The conditions needed to create animal life, let alone a sophisticated, intellectual human-type species is a universal anomaly and even if it did occur on another planet it would have little chance of survivability long enough to evolve to where we are now.
However, in the remote chance that there were to be contact with an extraterrestrial of our sophistication or higher it would no doubt be us and from the future. Our own species (higherly evolved) far in the future may be able to create or open an existing "worm hole" to visit us in the past from either Earth or from another planet we may have populated by then.. So I believe we may be able to visit ourselves by going back in time someday, but do not believe another sophisticated, intellectual being coexists on another planet in our time.
Plant life may exist right now under the right conditions. But animal life was such a fluke to even start on our planet and survive the millenium in the first plance that I find it doubtful it exists anywhere else.

I believe in the possibility of extraterrestrial life; in fact I think it's quite likely that there's life elsewhere in the universe, given the fact that life came into being on our planet almost immediately following its creation and has persisted since then.
I won't believe in the fact of extreterrestrial life until there's evidence for it, though. Right now the the question of extraterrestrial life is a bit like the question of God: seems like he might be out there, and it's not unreasonable to think he might be, but we have no evidence yet to back up our idea.

Since there is no evidence supporting the idea, I do not "believe in" extraterrestrial life. But I am completely open to the possibility, should such evidence ever become available.

No. I would believe that there's life in other places in the universe if God told us that he created life in other places like earth, but he didn't say that. Although God created the angels they are invisible to us and do not live on planets. So I do not believe in extraterrestrial life.

Do I believe there is extraterrestrial life? Yes
However, your statement that there is no possible way we are the only social life in the universe is wrong. It is EXTREMELY unlikely we are the only ones, but it is still possible. Until we meet such life (either them coming here or us going there), we can't say definitively that it exists

I do believe this. There is always a non-zero chance that there is life out there as large as the Universe is. Now whether that life is tall walking beings or microscopic bacteria that is another question.

It is rather presumptive of "us" to think we are all alone in the universe. With so many moons, planets, asteroids and star systems - there must be more.

i would say there is well over a 99.99999% chance of life on other planets or moons. however, i strongly disagree with those life forms having visited earth.
