I would mix it with breastmilk and only put a small amount in? my friend says that it's perfectly fine and that's what she did with her baby, but I just want to make sure.

I would suggest trying something a bit less complex at first, such as rice cereal, just to make sure your baby is ready for solids. How old is your baby? On the side of cream of wheat it says it can be used for infants and toddlers so I don't think it would hurt him or anything, but it may be harder to digest than the rice cereal...

Go with your instincts and watch for problems - my son has loved cream of wheat since he was 7 months old. If neither side of the family has history of allergies, your child isn't likely to have a reaction.

ADD: People are so afraid of allergies these days, it's unreal. My mother had me eating all table foods at 4 months old and I'm not allergic to anything. They didn't always have baby food in the supermarkets, and kids are more likely to have allergies today than when our great grandparents were feeding straight from the kitchen table... just a thought....

I would just go ahead and use the cereal. My mother used the Cream of Wheat with my brothers and there was no problem, but each child is different. I'd talk to your childs doctor first. Personally, when my child gets to the "solid" food stage, I'm just going to stick with cereal for awhile.

stay away from wheat until the baby is older, some infants can develope allergies to wheat. the first food should be a rice cereal. its easy to digest and does not cause many allergies.

Wheat is one of the most allergy prone cereals.

That's why it's advised that wheat be the LAST cereal introduced to children.

Rice, oatmeal, all of them are less likely to cause allergies. By introducing wheat first, you are increasing the likelihood that she will develop an allergy.

I wouldn't do it unless you talk to your pediatrician. The baby cereal is formulated with iron and other vitamins that your baby needs. I don't know if cream of wheat is formulated to be the first foods for a baby.

Most likely it won't hurt your baby but infant cereal has added iron. It is important that your baby get enough iron. Also Rice cereal is easier to digest.

how old is your baby? you shouldn't give him/her cream of wheat until they are used to other foods. i didn't give it to my daughter until she turned 6 months, and had been eating baby food for 2 months. for a first food, you should use single grain rice cereal. it is so much easier on baby's tummy, because babies cannot digest food as easily as we can.

I would not. They say to start with rice cereal since rice is the most easily digested and fewer allergies. Wheat can be highly allergenic. I would speak with your doctor.

Rice is recommended because it's unlikely to cause an allergic reaction. Wheat is a common allergen, so I wouldn't do it. I'd stick with something made and recommended for infants.
