I am looking to publish a book but looking for a considerably cheap alternative to do so.

Please read these posts completely. Any "publisher" that's asking for money is either a scam or a vanity publisher who is only going to print the number of books you pay for. A legitimate publisher does not take payment from the author--they accept submitted works because they believe if they publish them they will make money off of it.

If you wish to self publish your work you can look into things like lulu.com or whatever but if you want actual credentials as a published author you need to submit your work to legitimate book publishers.

You shouldn't have to pay a publisher to publish your book. Every reputable publisher makes their money by selling books. Pick up the latest edition of "Writer's Market" at your local library or bookstore. It has a list of publishers and tips on getting published. Good luck.

get an agent first and they can judge if your book is good enough to be published.

Otherwise most self-publish places charge around $1000.

Any legitimate publisher wouldn't charge you. You'll need to find an agent, and if they agent takes you on as a client they will charge you, but you get what you pay for.
