I believe that BRAIDS are WAY MORE MANAGABLE THAN ANYTHING!!! I can go anywhere with them, I can swim, walk in the rain and do anything with them and they don't mess up, Not to mention YOU DON'T HAVE TO COMB YOUR HAIR, you can get up, put on hair spray AND GO.

BTW
Let me add that BLACK WOMEN aren't the only ones that use hair straighteners, Latinos, Arabs and white people do as well.

Well it all depends on how you style your braids, I know women that say my braids look egyptian style, many people ask if I can do their hair. LOL!! Trust me it doesn't look childish if it did I wouldn't get as many compliments as I do about my hair, and I'm 20

I know!! I'm trying to get me some long Senegalese twists for my Senior pis. I love wearing them, i don't relax my hair because it's not good for you're hair. Anything that burns when you put it on to you're scalp/hair isn't healthy or good for you. How in the world is this magable?:

Relaxer/Perm
$35-60
-You have to apply the relaxer that burns and it can burn skin
-wash it out, condition it
-trim split ends
-sit under a dryer for 1 hour
-wrap you hair
-you can't let water touch a fresh perm either

I feel sorry for Black women who relax their hair(98% of consumers of hair relaxers are Black women, and plus they are the target group for those ads)I used to but but now I saw the light end on the tunnel. I hurts me when our beautiful Black women believe in those horrible European beauty standrads of straight /long hair=beauty, dark=bad/ugly, and light=good/pretty.

I think it's because a lot of times when you braid you hair and you finally take it out it can be really curly and sometimes harder to manage, i think that it depends on the braid because if you braids get ruined in some way you have to re-braid them all over again and you get a little tired. I myself don't mind wearing my hair in braids though.

Hairstyle is a personal preference and personal expression of style. Some people may find braids more manageable, while others may prefer the versatility of relaxed hair. Others may prefer natural hairstyles. Not all black people have the same texture of hair, so different styles and treatments work differently for different people.

I like versatility, yeah I can go an get some micros, but I stopped wearing braids in the 8th grade. It just seems...childish to me...

But yeah, I'm a lover of curls in all sorts of styles..

And this year I'm trying to get voted best hair styles.

I agree that braids are more versitile, esp. micro braids and cornrows. if you're not a morning person like myself, they are great. However, I do like more versatility. I used to wear braids a lot, but they seemed a bit "young" for me (except for when i wore micros) and the tedious time it took to get them done. But when it does come down to it, braids are much more manageable.

I have naturally curly hair too. In the past all I did was tie it back. I realized first thing to manage your curls is to love your curls. For my curls, i use detangler, smoothing cream and small amount of mouse (Goldwell). By experience i found out my curls stay better if I air dry them at home or with diffuser first before I leave.

I don't like the way braids look on me. I rather it be straight.

To each his own.......
