I'm doing a project for one of my classes and I was wondering if you have to be Italian to be in the New York Mafia families. I already know that you could not hold a high rank, but for something like a Hitman or Grunt would you?

The answer to this question is in the very good movie, based on a true memoir, called "Goodfellas". Everyone should watch that movie, and not the watered down verson that is on TV occasionaly.

Although the TV version will surely be sufficient to answer your question - so set your Tivo, head to Blockbuster, or log in to Netflix :)
