china is rapidly growing as a world power, and with that so is their military.
they are already enhancing their fleet by develping blue-water ships, and have even admitted to be training hackers to shut down american communication in "total war".
and there was also that stunt earlier this year, or last year when they managed to shoot down one of their own sattelites with a missle that could easily be targeted at american sattelites.
so what do you think? it appears to me that they are preparing for war

First of all I want to say thanks to you of inviting me to answer this question. Now lets get back to the topic.

We may be spending more money on our military but it is just because of our recent ecomomic development. Our military role is strictly defensive. We are at the moment focusing our energies on pressing domestic problems such as product safety, pollution problems and education. We don't have the time, resources or the will for war.

As for the anti-sattelite missile and hacker issue. I'm going to say that we made a fair move in this world chess game of arms races. If you ever played a turn base strategy game you will know that it is alway a good idea to keep your 'friends' in check by having the same weponds as they do. The US and her allies have thoses things too. So why can't we have it?

China does not have a history of invasion. I am not saying that China is a peaceful country. In fact we spend 5000 years killing each other. However who can honestly say their own country is peaceful? Is the US a peaceful country? Is Japan a peaceful country? Is the UK peaceful country? Face it, as long as there is man there will be war.

I will end this answer by a quote from JFK:

It is an unfortunate fact that we can secure peace only by preparing for war.
John F. Kennedy

Why should China prepare for war? Because the largest fleet in the American Navy is sitting right off the Chinese coast between Taiwan and China? These Chinese "hackers" can't even develop a good-enough firewall to censor unwanted information/porn from the Chinese internet, so I doubt they're capable of hacking the U.S. infrastructure via computer yet.

While living in China, every day I see thousands of Chinese people preparing for war with the U.S. by eating at KFC, buying Nike shoes, and watching American movies. I guess a government strategy is to pump as much money as possible into American business.

China just wants to protects its borders. Sure, they still want Taiwan to be a part of the "one China," but they're not willing to get their whole country bombed into the stone age by taking military action to get it. They know that no matter how big they build their army, the U.S. military will still be far more advanced in technology, and they'd really rather be an ally to the U.S. in the long-term. The U.S. owes China billions of dollars, and a war with them would be the quickest way to get America to skip-out on the debt.

The last time China fought the USA was in Korea, and they did so because they were afraid of the U.S. invading China after defeating North Korea. They're still pretty bitter about the Japanese invasion, and China is happy to simply protect its own borders.

The only reason the constant bashing of China is going on in regards to her being a potential military threat to the world is to keep up the huge funding for the military machine in the USA.

China has no history of imperialism. The USA does. We justify that and in particular we do it by pizzing off our potential enemies, to even lying about reasons that a simple fact check would prove to be unsupportable.

Yet for some idiotic reason we continue to believe our government even though they have repeatedly lied to us about reasons for war. The last two are good examples.

In affect, our government and those that profit from war are no better then super market tabloidism and have become monsters because of that.

Is it no wonder the world has lost respect for us?

Peace

Jim

Not for certain. But look at what has happened historically just over the last 65 years. Germany, Japan and Italy were our sworn enemies as recently as 1945 (in most of our parents lifetimes!). Now we don't have any negative conotations about these countries and consider them either harmless or as allies. Hard to say what will happen, but you can be assured that alliances will form and there will be another war sometime soon. Scary thought.

They are not preparing to go to war with any country of the world, but they are sending a clear message to the rest of the world that they can defeat un-defeatable Americans if they tried any nonsense with them,or step to their toes.
Again it is a clear warning to American government to stop exploiting and invading oil countries and poorer countries of the world.

China is a world power, for sure, but they arent stupid. If they start something suddenly, everyone would hate china. Then china will fall. Simple as that. Also, China is over 90% poverty. They arent able to do that much.

China is presently enjoying the bountiful commerce it is experiencing and getting greedier by the minute to think about declaring war on anyone.

And I suspect that they are no different then any other country that feels the need to protect their shores. It appears that warfare is something that will eventually happen no matter how neutral a country tries to be.
