I was reading a book that sparked the question and just wanted to see some other opinions because if you really think about it, you sacrifice something for complete freedom... So does that make us slaves?

freedom is relative.

we're all "servants" to bodily needs: food, air, water, shelter, and we compromise "freedom" to achieve those ends.

to engage in economic activities that facilitate access to the necessities, we make additional concessions. and often, to "advance" in that system, we make compromises to freedom that make us extremely reliant on that economic system.

the more unneccessary toys we pursue, yet even more compromise.

but if we live outside the system and die of an easily-prevented (using the system) ailment, we have lost the freedom to pursue what the rest of our lives may have held.

You can't have complete freedom without feeling shackled.
And you can be free even when enslaved.

No one is ever completely free until they die. We are all slaves to the clock, our kids, our obligations, our debtors, etc.

Freedom isn't free, unless you die for freedom, then you are free.

freedom doesn't mean your completely free.
freedom means you have rights and are not forced to do anything you do not want to and do what you want to within the law .
