hi, i'm a 16 year old female and for the past two days i have had very tender breasts. at first i thought it was just the tips of my nipples, but if i press lightly on the actual breast itself, it feels sore as though it's bruised or something.. though i don't see how both of my breasts could've gotten bruised. haha.

it is really unpleasant and i have no idea what the cause could be. i am due to start my period soon.. i dunno if that could have something to do with it.. but i've had my period for about 3 years now and this has never happened before.

it isn't the symptom of an std, is it?

also, how long is this supposed to last?

[ps- i know i'm not pregnant, so please don't suggest that.]

thank you. :]

Breast tenderness is a very common symptom that occurs in the weeks before the period. It can last til a few days before your period comes or even until the period ends. Having breast tenderness before a period is normal and is caused by the rise in hormones.

Please let your mom know what's going on as well so that she can help you keep an eye on it.

Absolutely nothing to worry about. I always get that about a week or so before my period. It didn't even start happening until a few years after my first period.
