From what I gather Replaytv just doesn't have a solution for HD programming. TOO, TOO BAD. I don't want Tivo S3, nor the comcast DVR. Is there a third option to build into a computer that can be dedicated to HD DVR? I assume it will have to be something used on a PC, and I'll need to get a good Video card, and some type of TV tuner card. Any suggestions?
Thank you.

Right now, there are no PC solutions that allow you to record in HD, except for OTA HD and QAM HD, which only covers non-premium HD. Everything else records in SD.
Google Hauppauge, one manufacturer of tuner cards, The video card doesn't have to be anything spectacular-most of the middle of the road boards have DVI outputs. eg-Nvidia 7600 GS.
With regard to cablecard-there are very few around, and you cannot build your own. With a cablecard computer, you can record all cable HDTV, but you need an HDCP capable monitor.
All of these limitations have nothing to do with technology-they're in response to the diugital millenium act.

Get a pc with a digital Tuner ATSC/NTSC/QAM They mentioned Vista could help even CableCards (or you are able to not view top rate Cable channels), yet i'm not sure in the event that they're available yet. Load MS homestead Vista top rate (or Xp2 with Media OS) and additionally you're arranged. Media OS supplies you a television instruction manual and each and all the PVR function.

Load MS Home Vista Premium (or Xp2 with Media OS) and you are all set.
Media OS provides a TV guide and all the PVR functionality.
