The Dems. have to dilute whatever they send to GW or he vetos, and he still has enough party loyalists to prevent override.

The Reps., on the other hand are profitting directly from the war

The people have spoken and the Democarats have tried several times to do the will of the people but the obstructionist Republicans have stopped the will of the people. When a bill is watered down enough or when the Democrats must give the President what he wants than the Republicans go along with it. If by some miracle the Republicans decide not to obstruct the will of the people the bill can still be vetoed by the President. With so many of the obstructionist Republicans whose job is to buck the will of the people in favor of fearless leader the number needed to override a veto is never going to be reached.

Maybe they simply believe in the cause and dislike defeat and the slaughter of the Iraqi people which would ensue if we were to abandon them. Standing on principle and what is best for the coutry is very difficult for many to understand.
