I would say that that quote is half right. We are going into a police state government. We keep thinking its our place to civilize and take care of the world. Well I think we should take care of our selves first. We are losing money or buying more and selling less so we are going to fall financially even faster is we have to keep supporting this war, And were making the people that supported use less friendly. The UN was against this war but we thought oh screw it were more powerful we'll take them any day. Like King Henry the 4th when he thought he could appoint anyone he wanted to the statues of Bishop and the Pope kicked him out of the church along with anyone that supported him. After he lost power because no one wanted to work his land he dressed as a beggar and waited 3 days for forgiveness. This is what will happen to the U.S. but it will get broken up and there will be no forgiveness. I don't know if this would be good or bad. And just to get this straight I'm not religious just because I used that example

I think we are. We want to dictate to everyone how they should live, who they should talk to. The way empires behaved in days of old. The thing is none of those empires exist anymore because they imploded from the very pressure of what made them an empire in the first place and the stress to keep it going.

No. Empires defeat and settle while taking complete governing control, America occupies and does not become the government but does help in forming the government.

Pat tries to tell you to learn History, not that dummy "social studies" that you are fed in your schools.

Both UK and USA are classic Roman-type empires with colonies scattered overseas. The life cycle of such empires is pretty similar and well studied by the historicians.

If you don't understand Buchanan, I can give you another sample: the Empire in the Galaxy Far Far Away (Star Wars, the movie).

---
The American Empire will fall not because it invades too many countries, but because the wars make it vulnerable to a slow barbarian invasion. That's what happens now.

At some point, we *will* end up like the British Empire regardless of how we act. *All* nations rise and fall in prominence, a fact to which history will attest.

America is an empire, and it was intended this way. This is not a republican v. democrat issue:which is only a game really. I suggest you read "The Anglo-American Establishment" written by Bill Clinton's mentor Caroll Quigley, who admitted that their were high ranking Anglo elites who gather/ed together in societies like the Round Table/CFR etc, for the purposes of controlling the entire world(ie globalizing) in a facist manner because people who are not a member of the elite(and and who are not Anglo's) are not bright enough to managed themselves within a democracy. Whoa! And this is Clinton's mentor? Caroll Quigley agreed. A more recent book of this tone is God and Gold(written by one of the head directors of the Council on Foreign Relations).

political empire -- no.
economic empire -- yes. American capitalistic companies are bleeding the world's resources and seducing the "poor"nations into buying into the consumerism mentality of the 1950-60's America Utopia.

Walmart has a higher GDP than over half of the world's countries.

we're not only behaving like an empire, we are doing everything that OBL wanted including taking out his and Iran's enemy (Sadam) and uniting the middle east against US, Israel and the west. America will be paying for this for a hundred years....and it will get much worse because we will end up attacking Iran by the end of this year

We are an empire, and we should act like one. Destroy our enemies, and take what natural resources that our country needs to prosper. We should take out Iran to deny them nuclear weapons and to stop them from killing our troops and supporting terrorists.

Pat is right though that we should not be letting in so many immigrants, as our national identity as a Western and Christian nation is being lost, as has happened in Britain with all of their Muslims.
