Fireball: The way I read the article the contraception was a prevention of ovulation. Murder would be an impossible arguement.

Just FYI, saying that something the Catholic leadership agreed on is indicative of the behavior of all Christians is like saying something that a bunch of Wiccans decided goes for all pagans.
Christians are not one-dimensional characters. Some of them fudge the "rules" on common-sense things; others work common sense into their denominations. You might find this interesting:

At least the Catholics accept science, though. Look at all the fundies on here who can't accept evolution, and it makes you thankful for the Catholic Church.

Don't turn this into an issue.
Just be happy for the rape victims, they are the ones who win with this decision. Leave religion/non religion out of it.
