It may take him a few weeks. Some babies never crawl and go right to walking. He may just roll so well to get himself around that he is happy with that.

What a fun stage. Enjoy your babe

In his own time - he'll probably discover it by accident! He may crawl on all fours or rock and scoot or roll or even lunge sort of like a frog!!!! This is such a great time! Enjoy every stage he takes, whether he goes backward, forward or even to the side he's learning to get where he wants to go! One of my boys would get up on hands and knees, start rocking and sorta fall forward!!!! He walked next. He seemed just happy to get where he was going. I have a 3 mo. old grandson now and can hardly wait to see how he will go. LOL!!!

God bless

Your little guy will start his forward crawling in about a month. Most babies when they hit this milestone in development will crawl backwards before they try going forwards. It is a safety mechanism for them, it feels safer to falls back on your tummy then forward on your face. If you want to try to encourage him to try moving forward now you can do it by putting his favorite toys in front of him at a reachable distance and you could also sit in front of him also at a reachable distance to encourage him to move forward.
