Most people in the US don't even follow European politics.
Most of them don't even follow Canadian or Mexican politics, and they border us! The average American does not;

Know who your Leaders are.

Know what a "Euro" is.

Know what kind of government you have.

Know where Europe is on a globe.

Know where your country is in Europe.
(Some even think Europe is a Country, and France and Germany are "States")

Know what the Capital of your Country is called.

Know what language your country speaks.
(Ask what language is spoken in Britton, they say "British". Ask what language we speak in America, they say "English".
Canadians speak Canadian, of course!)

Sad but true.

This is an interesting question. I don't think that most Americans keep up with European politics, though some know who Gordon Brown, Angela Merkel, and Nicolas Sarkozy are. I don't know if there is really as much corruption in European politics as there is in American politics, because I don't know how much influence the oil companies and major corporations have on the European governments.

I think less because the countries are so tiny. It seems to me to be a relatively easy thing to know what goes on in other parts of a small country. I also believe that Europeans are more politically active and less likely to follow Brittney Spears escapades like an extension of their family. They resist the strip mall/Wal Mart approach to life preferring to keep their local people working for them rather than some abstraction in a distant city. I have been to DC once and I saw a few monuments and some crackwhores just down the street. That was a single visit and very revealing.

The average American has no idea how European governments work, they barely understand how their own government works.

As for perceptions, most people think that the Europeans are less corrupt but, an order of magnitude more bureaucratic.

I feel that each day we lose more and more freedom, we civilians don't even get to see or hear half the things they vote in until it's all decided by the people who think they count,

Less freedom, more bureaucracy, more Socialism.

Some countries have lower level of corruption (Sweden, Norway), others are rotten to the bone (Poland, Italy, UK).
