500 years ago, India China had the biggest populations AND the greatest wealth.

That is why a bunch of dirty little greedy European countries were sending ships there to get spices and silks.

What happened is that two "empty" continents were discovered in teh process and the settlers there became the current superpower.

I would be more worried about the superpower you can't see that will knock off America.

Like Martian colonies, corporations with huge "security" forces, or artificial intelligence robots, none of which could be defeated with a conventional army like China and india are subject to.

Plus China and India both profit from a powerful US, they have no long term incentive to take away from the States.

Power is not derived from population. China has always had the largest population yet very little real power. They had the threat of power but essentially very little real power. Power is held in the Market place, and the US will have to compete with the world on that stage. We will have to stay ahead in technology, where we currently hold a big advantage, and that means we had better get going on educating more people in the sciences or we are going to lose the lead we currently have.

u see the i live in the states. but i think what u say is right. india will be a powerful in the next 15 years. india is growing on the heights. but the problem with the pop. in my opionion the pop. really doesn't help the world powers because the more pop. the more jobs and more spaced used up. people's (poor) houses r broken for building offices and then those people r homeless and really can't do anything. u see pop. really doesn't relate to the powers of the country. like the states doesn't have more pop. than india but its still powerful

China will become super power. But India has already pledged it's people to the world bank. Another 1000 yrs of slavery to US. The speed at which people get green card and escaping, tells this story in advance.

Just because they have a high population does not mean they are superpowers or even close as powerful as the US. China's military is not very advanced or mobile, and techiniolgoy they are years behind us. Have you ever been to India?

In future we will have few countries emeging as world power (so call), but I think that they will all have qualifying adjective in front of the world power depeding on there status.

For example china is number one in population and possibly has biggest arm forces. Few years a go it bosted as having geatest number of sea worthy vessels belonging to its navy.

At one time there were only 5 contries capable of dilivering nuke weapons, to day that list is little longer and even slightly confusing, as to who should be included on that list.

US will tell that the india/china products contain high levels of lead so the rest of the countries in the world stop buying products from india/china like it has done with mexico (candies) and china (mattel)

Hopefully, the US will simply get used to it like everyone else in the world.

However, "maximum population" does not make you a world power. They have "maximum population" right now, and most people don't pay any attention to them, especially India.

It would depend if in the future, India and China, with their swelling population, can become a rival for the US as the most powerful country. If either does become a rival, or even just become potentially dangerous like how Bush perceives Iraq is, then most likely there'll be another war. Let's just hope that by that time, the president of US isn't as ignorant as Bush.

I don't agree with the premise of your question. China and India have been world leaders in total population for hundreds of years. Numbers of people does not equal success.
