Unfortunately, I kind of doubt it, because the masses tend to go for someone who talks tough rather than someone who gives rational explanations for his/her positions. A lot of people don't believe that a leader can be tough on crime AND against the death penalty.

One day, yes. Even supporters of the death penalty don't want innocent people executed. As more and more Americans are finding out about innocent people on death row and realizing that the value of the death penalty system in crime prevention or reduction is dubious at best, politicians may decide that "smart on crime" is a better slogan than "tough on crime" Now that life without parole is available in 48 states, politicians have a sensible, viable and cost effective alternative to talk and think about.

For more about the way the system actually functions take a look at www.deathpenaltyinfo.org.

Probably not.

The same ignorant conservatives who done got a little 'ol soft spot in dem dare hearts for "da babies" LOVE killin' with the death penalty.

As an American conservative about killin', and the put their cowboy hat over their heart, look lovingly to the stars, and say "why, killin is as American as apple pie...

...just make sure you kill all the right ones(heh heh)"

So no,you cannot be president without that double-standard.

I don't think any of them are really in favor of the death penalty. That seems more like the problem. No one wants to punish bad behaviour anymore because what the elites really want is to undermine morality and have a low IQ populous with loose morals because such a populous is far easier for them to manipulate.

Possibly. There has been so much controversy about the death penalty lately. Them being against it is not the same as the law being changed.

Of course, aren't all Democrats opposed to the death penalty?
