The answer most likely resides in your ignition or starter. Have a shop run a diagnostic. Otherwise it will continue to be just speculation.

if it happens after the car has been parked in the sun all day it is a problem with the relay that controls the fuel pump. That relay is called a "main relay" and it is located inside the car up under the left side of the dash.

when the interior temperatures rise the circuit board inside the relay will expand and break electrical contact. When that happens the engine will crank but you won't have any fuel or spark because the fuel pump and the ignition system won't be powered up by the relay. When the relay is the cause, simply leaving the car sit with the doors open to cool off the interior is often enough to cause the circuit board to contract, make contact, and allow the car to start.

this is a very common problem on the 91-92 accords.

Fuel pumps themselves don't stop working and start again. they may degrade over time and pump with less pressure but thats a very gradual thing..once they're bad, they're bad. Same with fuses, its a one-shot deal and when they melt they dont come back to life.

so if the car is hard to start particularly after sitting all day on hot days but does eventually start then your problem is the main relay. If it doesn't start at all it could be the relay, distributor cap, rotor, ignition coil or fuel pump and you would need to have it diagnosed further.

hope that helps

First check the fuse for the fuel pump. No power, no fuel. Could be the choke, without looking at the engine, I cant give you an accurate answer. EDIT: socal is right in saying that if the main fuel pump was constantly exposed(you should always maintain 1/4 tank of fuel) it may have burned out. The gas in the tank not only lubricates, but also cools the pump.

The fuel pump makes a high pitched noise before going bad. Not always though. If your car is newer the filter would not be a problem. Fuel pumps sometimes go bad if your car is always on empty because the pump is not submerged in gas (lubrication).

a lot of the time it's a bad ground with the starter. have you touch the starter? if not, then you can test the fuel pump by opening your fuel filter(it's ussually in the back of the hood on the passenger side). open the line, turn your engine on, not crank it. fuel should come out, and if it doesn't then that's probably a bad fuel pump. if it does, then it's probably a bad ground.
