Just got back from the doc's and she says that the lower back pain I've been having along with my diarrhea are most likely contractions (although the pain only happened maybe 3 times in the past 48 hours and have been rather light). She checked my cervix and said it was soft.... how concerned should I be re: preterm labor? What are your experiences?

As long as your not getting regular, painful contractions you should be fine. Your cervix being soft is a good thing. It doesn't mean that you'll go preterm but it will def. make labor easier since your body is preparing itself naturally. Ask your Dr if you are dilated or effacing yet. That's really the only way to tell if it's possible. Just think...even if you do go in preterm labor you are far enough that the baby will be fine! Good Luck!

Did the doctor tell you to be on bed rest, or partial bed rest? I would take it EXTREMELY easy. No lifting, or too much standing. My son was born at 29 weeks and we almost lost him, but today he is an extremely heatlhy, smart (Too smart for his own good sometimes) 3 year-old, but I also know a couple that had a baby at 32 weeks that have health problems with their almost 5 year-old. It all depends on the care they receive when they are born early.
