if i got it wrong, plz correct me and show me the correct way to do it.
Since the problem has a pic in it, i uploaded it on photobucket.
i think the answer is
AE+EC=4268.64

My TI-83 says it's 4267 exactly. Reflect C over BD to C', extend AB to AB' so that AB'C' is a right angle. Then AB' = 3765, B'C' = BD = 2008, and AEC' = AE + EC, so by Pythagoras, AEC'² = 3765² + 2008² = 18207289, and AEC = 4267 = AE + EC.

You could also do it as a calculus minimization, but that would be too much like work.
