That's not how history works. One generation can pretty much just do what they want because they know the next generation will not have to pay the price because it was not them that actually did it. Take the holocaust for example. Germans can just say we did'nt do anything, it was the Nazi's.

There are all sorts of problems and issues with reparations - see the link below.

Personally, I think that companies that built huge fortunes on the back of slavery in America (think big tobacco, among others) should have to pay reparations in the forms of donations to black colleges, or setting up college funds for inner-city black youth.

Doubtful. Slavery was hundreds of years ago and it would be difficult if not impossible to assign blame at this late date. Don't count on it, depend on yourself for your income and not some reparations that more than likely will never be made. As to entitlement, all one is entitled to is what they earn themselves...

At whose plantation did you work? For how long? How many children did you bear?

Please! Reparations for something that happened almost two hundred years ago. Do you have proof that your ancestors were sold into slavery (by their brother tribesman in Africa)? Let's see your family tree. I assume you have traced back five generations and can verify your statement.

You are entitled to what you earn. End of story.

No. I think he will handle bigger more important issues like health care for all and the war in Iraq. Sorry to be a bummer but really those are more bigger issues to think about then money.

If I am not mistaken, Obama's family immigrated to the US and was not part of the slavery decades ago.

No, I don't think he will give any reperations for slavery. Why should he? No one in America is a slave and no one has slaves. Good luck. 2D

WHAT exactly are you entitled to? What do you deserve that the rest of us dont. I think people need to get over this slavery crap!

Nope.
When were you ever a slave? Or your parents?

My ancestors were enslaved and mistreated by the Roman Empire. I ain't holding my breath for an apology or "reparations." I got a job instead. Go thou and do likewise.
