luongo announced on wednesday that if the nets get bigger, that hell retire from the NHL and play somewhere else!

i know how he feels, he said that he knows hes not the only goalie that thinks this is a terrible desicion!

i agree, that is stupid
bettman needs to be fired!
its not really fair for goalies if the nets are bigger, then player would be able to score from behind the blue line easily!

y is bettman so concerned about offense.. if u make the nets bigger y have defense and goalies. the nets are big enough now a days. leave em the same size. if luongo does retire (which i hope not) because of the rule bettman would of caused the end of a career of the games greats cuz he wanted bigger nets.

I like the alternative being proposed by the referees.
Essentially, goal equipment gets scaled back about 15% and enforcement becomes harsh (5 game suspension for use of illegal equip and hefty fine). Then they make the creases slightly larger and limit the goalie to playing the puck only as long as he is in the blue ice. This will get shooters better looks at the net, stop unnecessary delays from pucks frozen away from the net and should increase game flow and scoring.

The problem with the NHL is officials lurch around every year or so to being more offense in the game...and then coaches create defenses to counter the new rules. Bettman is probably on the verge of having soccer goals.

It appears like sour grapes from Luongo, but it is as if goalies are having their skills snatched away from them by league officials. And truth be told, a few additional goals a game is not elevating the game in the U.S.

I agree they need to leave the size of the nets alone.
I don't believe for a minute that Luongo will pass up millions of dollars if they do make them bigger, nor do I think the NHL would look at it any differently than an idle threat, either. Does Luongo think his net is the only one they're thinking about changing?
Word to Robby, pull the mask down, STFU and just stop the puck.

It's just a knee jerk reaction on his part, and kind of childish.

Players are a lot bigger than they were even 20 years ago. Bigger nets make sense, but only if they make the ice surfaces bigger too. The NHL missed the boat on that one though. When everyone started building their new arenas 10-15 years ago so they could incorporate luxury suites, the NHL should have told them to build them in a way that they could have easily expanded to international size by a certain date, say 2010.

The nets will not get bigger. There was talk about it, but it won't happen. With the new rules the game is a much higher scoring game...no need for larger nets.

Hes just proving a point to the NHL because its getting to be a joke with too many changes. He wouldn't retire hes just trying to make people feel what he feels. So all you guys can simmer down and think if you were Roberto.
Good question though.

i absolutely agree on the net issue.
should stop and look at the product on the ice what teams are the actual money makers and stop flooding the league with over paid unrated players, there are plent of other leagues for that.
what teams are struggling to sell out. im not saying fold half the league look at the markets there in and maybe consider folding or moving to a better market.

i love hockey lets not make it worse
