You might just be having Braxton Hicks contractions if they stop. Know what worked really well for my wife, walking around the park, going up and down the stairs (be very careful of course) take someone with you if you need help. Walking when you're about to give labor is very helpful and helps you get faced.

Run 4 fingers slowly up & down over your nipples. You could also play with yourself, or get someone else to do this. Also, push in a few fingers width above the inside of your ankles. This is suppose to work, anyway. Having intercourse (no condom) should help as well to soften the cervix. This is the extent of my medical knowledge on this topic. So, I'll look up more stuff & come back to this question later. I found that laying on my left side increased the contractions intensity. The nurses made me go for walks, but it did not help me any.

You're within the 1st degree of work. Call your physician and get his recommendation (he demands to grasp in any case). You're dilating with those exertions contractions so that you additionally would don't forget going to the sanatorium. They'll verify you and verify how dilated you're and if you are at a 6 they will hold you there. Sometimes the water does not holiday till you are nearly able to give so do not expect that as a trustworthy signal.

Try sex, raspberry leaf tea, hot curries, walking (a lot). You might want to make sure you eat plenty of good nutritious foods, since you may not want to or have time to eat once labor starts properly.

Stay upright and walk around as much as you can. Gravity will help keep the contractions going.
Good luck.

When my wife was having similar issues, the Doctor told her:
1) have Sex (we laughed at that suggestion, her mother was there and it was about the furthest thing from our minds)
2) Eat spicy foods
3) Exercise- swimming and walking in particular.
This was directly from my wife's OB/GYN!

first let me say:
ARE YOU MAD??? Keep them going?!?!??!?
Now:
I've heard walking and excersize will do it. If your doctor wants you to go into labor naturally, why are you trying to stimulate them? They will come. I promise! As far as I know, no child has ever gotten too done in the oven. It'll come when it's time.

lots of walking
this may be a little TMI, but you could masturbate. the orgasm causes contractions.
Have you lost your mucus plug? If not then you could have sex where your significant other comes inside of you. Otherwise avoid sex.
