Your weak points are your vulnerability
If you don't know your weak points, they can I suppose be used against you.
Therefore following that thought, in knowing what your weak areas are you will be less vulnerable to falter in this areas.

Sometimes this is an interesting stage for one to observe about self and other.
All weakness can be overcome, it may take time, patience and perseverence, but knowing your vulnerabilities is your strength.
To focus on the weakness is an error, focus on the strength which overcomes the weakness.
Remember what you put your energy into you become.

You ask if one should give up?
Over a lifetime we give up much, let go of more, release what is not of benefit, so it depends what you are asking about giving up.
To give up "working" on your weakness'ss would be an error, as these are our growth areas, much expansion of self, attitude, evolvement, inner security, can and will be achieved by taking up the torch in this area.
Ultimately there is everything to lose, all egoic stance, and much to gain, knowledge of self.

Sometimes it can be a powerful tool. For example: The strongest emotion that most women have is there Mother Instinct. And I have the kind of face that only a Mother could love ☺

whenever you find that a weakness is holding you back, try and make that weakness your strength...
it may sound slightly impossible, but when you're calm, think it through. find a way in which your weakness will be your biggest strength...never give up! if you give up, you have accepted failure and failure is not good for your mind or your self-confidence...
