They obviously hated that guy. If not, then why not?

No, the concept of hate crimes is asinine. All crime should be prosecuted to the extent appropriate to the case at hand. If someone commits a crime with malice aforethought, then that should bump up the crime at hand as allowed under state penal codes.

It absoutely was a hate crime and should be treated as such. But, I don't see it happening. Mychal Bell is expected to be released today. The boy that was beaten had nothing to do with the nooses in the tree, so it's unfair to even bring the noose situation into the equation of the attack. I see America going downhill from here. Why would America continue with it's racist attitude? Hate is hate whether it's black on white or white on black. Racism is wrong. What are we teaching future generations? Good luck. 2D

No, the idea being "hate crime" is stupid and only promotes racism. One's motive for committing a violent act does not really change the outcome of the act. A person should be tried for their actions -not their thoughts.

Absolutely not.

There should have been no charges laid in the first place. The district attorney in that town needs to step down from his position as he clearly has issues with minorities.
What about the nooses? Why weren't those kids charged with hate crimes? Oh, that's right they were white. No harm done.
Willis' jumps out of his truck with an unloaded riffle and the 'black' kids wrestle it away from him, and THEY get charged, with theft no less?

Do these people in Jena who are defending these poor decisions and obvious abuse of the law, not realize how ridiculous they are making themselves look to the rest of the world?

It's 2007 people. This world is full of people of different cultures and different colors. That is what makes our world what it is.

This is getting so old. If these white folks don't like 'black' people then perhaps THEY should move to some remote island in the middle of nowhere so we don't have to deal with their crap anymore.

They might have hated the guy, but they didn't hate him because he was white, they hated him for what he did. If he had never done anything to them, I don't think they would have hurt him. If they did hurt him totally unprovoked, then it would be a hate crime.

they will just come up with BS stories to avert the depth of seriousness of this crime, by those six criminals, with stories like how a white student pulled his hunting rifle from his car to PROTECT HIMSELF FROM THREE BLACK STUDENTS FROM HARASSING HIM, some BS story about a black kid who was beaten with bottles by white guys BUT NEVER RECEIVED TREATMENT, or some noose prank that happened MONTHS before the beating of the white student WHO HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH IT.

Who knows. Now they are telling us to get over it AND MOVE ON?! ISN'T THAT F-ING FUNNY!?

SEEMS LIKE THOSE PEOPLE GOT TO purplefrog^murtle~. She actually believes in the BS stories.

this was not a hate crime, if there was any hate it was on the part of those white boys who hung a noose over those blk boys heads. this is a high school scruffle that white folks are trying to convict those boys on attempted murder. they walked away w/ a couple of cuts & bruises. besides if it was white boys that beat of the black guy they wouldn't have even been arrested & the blk guy would have been suspended.

Yes they should. They should also be expelled from school. And so should those that beat the black guy at that party. And those that hung the noose. And the guy that pulled the shotgun on those black kids should be tried for aggravated assault.

I'm a black guy from Louisiana btw.

No way mang. That kid axed foe it. He called them the N-word. I think he should get charges filed on the white boy for starting the fight.
