no, just refill it after you get the new pump on and work the steering wheel back and forth a few times and recheck the fluid level.

This is a very good question. There is obviously a reason why you are replacing the power steering pump. 90% of the time pump failure is caused by dirty/contaminated fluid or low fluid level. Also, be aware that belt fatigue and wear play a role in pump failure. It is standard practice in the automtovie field to flush the power steering system when the pump is replaced. This eliminates the possibility of dirty/contaminated fluid from damaging the new pump. It also will aid in prolonging the life of the other components in your power steering system (i.e. rack & pinion or gearbox, hoses, resevoir etc.). Definately a good idea to flush the system. I hope this was of some help.

I would Bleed the system at the farthest point,i.e. Rack or G.B. Loosen return hyd Line, move steering in each direction slowly ,when Started getting clean fluid and no air bubbles close the line, If You don"t your steering will cherp like new born chicks;Note before performing this check, raise car and place two sheets of plastic,so you don"t damage tires,One other note, do not steer against stops at max travel;

Always flush the system if ANY part of power steering hydraulic system is replaced, except for maybe the cap to the reservoir, because of metal debris, hose debris, or burned fluid.
