y= mx+b is slope intercept form
slope is 5, so y=5x+b
plug in (6,9), so 9=5*(6)+b, b=-21
plug in (5,y), so y=5*(5)-21= 4
y=4

Slope of a line through (6, 9) and (5, y) = (y - 9) / (5 - 6) = 9 - y.
Slopes of parallel lines are equal.
So, 9 - y = 5
=> y = 4

first you should know that parallel lines have the same slope
so the two points have slope of 5
(9-y)/(6-5)=5
9-y / 1 =5
-y = -4
y=4

If a line is parallel to a distinctive line, the two strains could desire to have the perfect same slope, in any different case they does not be parallel. despite in case you have 500 parallel strains, their slopes will all be precisely an identical. there is not any formulation to apply to locate the slope of "the different line parallel to any exact line," you are able to in basic terms locate the slope of the unique line after which use deductive reasoning to deduce the slope of the 2d line.

through (6,9) and (5,y) and parallel to a line with slope 5.
If a line passes through two distinct points P1(x1 , y1) and P2(x2, y2), its slope is given by:
m = (y2 - y1) / (x2 - x1)
with x2 not equal to x1.
So,
m = (y-9)/(5-6) = (y-9)/-1 = 9 - y
and
m = 5
Then,
9 - y = 5
9-5 = y
y = 4

first put it into point slope form because that is what you have
y-y1=m(x-x1) y1 and x1 are your points and m is the slope
y-9=5(x-6)
y-9=5x-30 (distribute first)
y=5x-21 (add 9 to both sides)
now you have the equation you need. The slope is always the same for parallel lines so just plug your other x into the equation to get y!
y=5(5)-21
y=25-21
y=4
Your point is (5,4)
Hope that helps!!

if you meant slope .5 its 8.5
if you mean slope 5 its 4
slope = change in height/change in length
change in length = -1
change in height = slope * 1
