Saying "the police" are any of those things is like calling a banker or a lawyer any of those things. There are some good and some bad. Some people are good and some are bad. C'mon now.
"The police" are human beings doing their jobs. Whether they are good and honest or corrupt and vain is up to the individual.

Some are ok, some are up themselves and every so often you get a complete plonker one who answers the 999 calls.....
I have a very beautiful friend and her husband is a Policeman, he treats her terribly, controls her, shouts at her, drinks alcohol like it's going out of fashion and is on sale and is just down right mean. He shouts so much that the kids tremble and plays mind games for what seems fun............................ Is this the image they want to portray?
My cousin on the other hand works for the Police and is lovely. Her husband was like my friends, a complete **********

I am a police officer...so you know where I stand. Just like all professions we have our good and bad...just like Doctors,lawyers, and politicians. I don't expect people to like me,but at least respect me...I put my life on line everyday to make this a better place.I love what I do...helping people
I just read your updated comments...even despite your feelings we would still be there to protect you...that's what we do...we look past prejudice towards the uniform

They are people. You cannot generalise about a group of people because of their shared job. Some will be male, some female, some old, some young, some decent, some underhand...etc. Same as in any other walk of life.
There's a person in that uniform...

well i have a great respect for the police in the UK because no matter how man scum carry knives & guns the general body of police still refuse to carry firearms. relying on the Armed responce boys, who still have a very hard job.

im married to one -
i worked there for 7 years
some are complete toss pots - but overall - there is an air of arrogance amoung most of them ...
they do a job that most couldnt or wouldnt want to do (the things you see and have to deal with can sometimes be so horrific) and the emotional effects on them has to be put behind professionalism

I think it all depends on the cop themselfes and where you live, where i live the cops are never around anywhere but if something happens then the entire department is there.
