Hi! Now slightly over 4 mos with the first- having kind of an embarassing problem. (as if the gas isn't enough!) Not every time, but sometimes, if I cough or sneeze, I'm peeing a bit. Just a couple of drops, but this is terribly annoying. Is this gonna get worse? Is there anything I can do? Am I gonna end up in a diaper long before my baby does? Any help appreciated...

PS: No sarcasm needed. Nothing anyone could say could make me feel more self-conscious about this! LOL

zclifton: Thanks for the sweet compliment! I don't exactly feel so beautful right now, I feel like a gassy, leaking pear, but I appreciate the 'man's' perspective. Everyone else, thank you! (I am flexing as we speak!)

Normal... trust me.

Do your Kegels daily. The link below will tell you how to do them effectively & how often. That will strengthen your whole area down there, because it is muscular.
You will not loose as much, if any pee, when coughing, sneezing, laughing, etc.
It will help in childbirth tremendously, also!!!

Oh, btw, the Kegel exercise devices are a crock, you do not need them!!! Do it yourself & your sexual life will improve, as a bonus!

I had and am having the same problem. From what I was told the first time, it is very common. My solution was to wear a panty liner or mini-pad. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find a "cure" for it. For most people it goes away after the baby is born. It got worse the closer I got to delivery the first time. At least you only have the problem when you cough or sneeze. I had it every time I would laugh hard, move suddenly, or stand or sit quickly.

The only "cause" I can come up with is that when you have the sudden movement, the baby pushes on your bladder. I know it is uncomfortable and embarrassing, but it will go away. Not as soon as you would like, but it does go away.

Good luck and congrats!!

Don't be embarassed, thats totally normal!! I had the same problem when i was pregnant with my son. Towards the end of my pregnancy it did get worse b/c he was a big baby and as he dropped it was more and more pressure on my bladder. I did end up wearing a pad (just incase) when i went out in public, b/c i didn't want to have an accident or anything. I've heard that doing squeezing (kegel) exercises can help, so you might try that.
Good Luck though. . . and don't worry about it, I'm sure most pregnant woman have experienced it at some point.

Don't feel bad! I think almost EVERYONE on here has experienced this :)

I had a bad cold at 4.5 months and everytime i sneezed, well you know. I am now 5 months pregnant and still have this happen once a day at least whenever I sneeze.

In order to prevent this, I make sure I use the restroom before I get the feeling that i can't hold it any longer. Also, you can try panty liners. A lot of pregnanct women wear them for the discharge, but I like them for the pee pee accidents! Then all you have to do is change the liner instead of your panties :)

Just get some 'Poise pads' and wear them. This 'leakage' from coughing and sneezing won't get 'worse' but it will 'go on' until about 3 months after your child is born. You are actually 'right on schedule' for that really 'icky' symptom, and you shouldn't be embarrassed by it. Talk to other pregnant women ... they'll tell you that they do it too ... it's totally 'normal' unless you have a bladder that is made of iron. The 'baby' is resting on your bladder, which 'compresses it' and causes the leakage because when you 'cough or sneeze' the baby presses down on the bladder ...

Believe me you are not alone I was like that when I was preg with my first everytime I sneezed cough or laughed I peed. Most of the time a little bit but a few times it was really bad! Where a panty liner it can help a little. But dont be embarassed you can't help you have a growing baby inside you! After you have the baby it will go away!

Honey, that just goes with being pregnant! I had to wear a pantyliner thru most of my pregnancy for this reason. Don't feel embarassed, it is totally natural. You can try to start Kegel exercises to strenghten the muscles in the pelvic floor. Tighten everything up and hold for 10 to 15 seconds and release, keep doing this until you can hold for 30 seconds. another way of strengthening the bladder is stopping in the middle of a stream of urine and holding back, start again and stop again. those are the muscles you should try to strenghthen. It will also help during childbirth!

Good luck!

I went through the same thing and it took a couple of months or so of kegel exercises to improve things after the baby was born. (I'm not sure you should do that exercise while you're still pregnant, but I could be wrong). While you're pregnant, you could just make things easier on yourself by wearing panty shields. Then you won't have to worry about trying to suppress a cough or sneeze at a bad time. :)
Congrats. I hope your pregnancy and labor are easy and your baby's healthy as can be.

Kegels! Kegels! Kegels!
This is super common and will only get worse - esp after you have the baby. You need to strengthen your pelvic floor muscles. To learn which ones they are - try squeezing to stop midstream while urinating. Those are the muscles you need to strengthen.
So - a few times a day, whenever you think about it - squeeze and hold for 10 secs - 20 secs, release, repeat. Then squeeze, release, squeeze, release - the more you do these, the less often you will have problems. Also helpful with having the baby!
Hope I could help.

Yes wanted to let you know that you are not alone. I am 27 weeks pregnant with #3 and have that problem. I didn't have it with my other two as bad, but maybe because they were girls and this is a boy and he is positioned different. But I leak all the time, for no reason, I don't even have to caugh or sneeze, it just leaks every once in a while. But yes it is very embarassing.
